Where's the Beef (or Cheesecake, Apple Pie or Whatever)?

A few days ago, Collin posted a link on my Facebook page--it was a link to a piece at Shiftgig in which, just for fun, the writer compared superheroes to food. Thor was compared to bacon. I totally get that. Like bacon, Thor is sizzling hot and delicious, and I've never NOT wanted bacon. However, I didn't agree with all of the writer's choices. Iron Man, for example--sushi? Nope. I see Iron Man (and especially his alter ego, Tony Stark) as the most expensive caviar. Or ham. Definitely ham. Captain America was compared to a bacon double cheeseburger and fries. Okay, I get that. But the wholesome, all-American hero, as the saying goes, is as American as...you guessed it! Apple pie. A la mode, of course, with classic vanilla ice cream. Black Widow was compared to chocolate-dipped strawberries. Good choice...but I see her as something with a bit more kick to it. Tex-Mex!

And what about Hawkeye? I'd give him something hot and spicy. Firehouse chili. Then there's Bruce Banner/the Hulk. For Hulk, Collin suggested a buffet. A very large buffet--the kind of buffet where if you eat too much of it, you're going to go home in pain!

Then there are the villains. I see Loki as turkey...or maybe a big ol' bowl of Froot Loops. Garrett (Agents of SHIELD) would have to be blackened fish. But you had to have seen the season finale to get that one....

But let's not limit this to superheroes. Who are some of your favorite characters from books, TV and movies? For those of you who are writers, apply this to your own characters. What foods would you associate with them?

PS Be sure you check out the best of the blogs for the past few days: William's written about a dog who ran afoul of a porcupine, while Eve has a haiku I took very personally! Also, William, Grace and Bob have some great stuff on their photoblogs!

  1. Thor could never compete with bacon for my heart. You did a great job and since I despise fish, I concur with you on Garrett. Mostly I can't compare food to characters. I like food too much.

    1. I know somebody you love as much as you love food. What dish is PJ?

  2. I love your comparisons, especially Thor as bacon and Loki as Froot Loops!

  3. Loki is definitely froot loops!

I can't think of characters like food!

  4. Hmm, Loki to me is like deep fried Oreos. Dark underneath his armor, with a touch of fluffy whiteness at his core. Overall sinfully bad, but you just can't resist it.

  5. I keep thinking I left a comment but I always hit the red button instead.
I think I said something about not having any food=actor comments. But after Looking at your 2nd photo I am craving a BLT.
the actor as Captain America doesn't look like the one you have posted before (?)

    cheers, parsnip

  7. Mmmmm! The only actor I 'lust' after :) is Ewan McGregor, think I might equate him to something reeeeally delicious, like a vanilla slice with extra cream :)

    1. Ewan's a favorite of mine as well, Grace...as a matter of fact, there's a rather odd story behind my character Connor in Chasing the Wind and Ewan McGregor....

  8. This is a riot and even though I just had lunch, you made me hungry. Let's see--when I was younger and Clint was younger I would think of him as a prime cut of sizzling rib-eye. In Penniless Hearts there's that nasty pilot guy who looks good until you're just about to take a bite--he might be a rotten apple with worms. LOL Thanks for the mention. Great post!

  9. An apple with a worm? Perfect! That's better than my blackened fish!

  11. My favorite superhero is Robert Conrad on that old TV show, Wild Wild West. Not sure what food he is, but I would gladly share my apple pie with him.
