Photoblog Friday: Hong Kong

I haven't done one of these in quite a while--I'm still sorting through stacks of photos from the pre-digital era that need to be scanned--but two gorgeous photos of Hillarys Boat Harbour, taken by my friend and photoblogger Grace at Perth Daily Photo made me think of some pics from my research files. Hong Kong was originally going to be the setting for a novel I proposed back in 1992 (it was shot down by my agent because the female protagonist was going to be a seismologist, a profession Maria vetoed because it wasn't "glamorous").

I did eventually use Hong Kong as a setting in a couple of chapters in Chasing the Wind....

    1. When I had the photos developed, there was a note in the envelope that singled out a few of the images, which was surprising. That one was one of them.

  2. Excellent shots- that last one really appeals to me. It's a part of the world that feels thoroughly out of my experience.

    1. It kind of reminds me of Afterlife from Tuesday's episode of Agents of SHIELD....

  3. Nice pix! A shame agents never get what you're trying to do. A lot of good projects probably go by the wayside because of narrow mindsets.

    1. I had a really, really good agent--one of the best--but we ended up with major creative differences at the end. Some agents, once they're representing you, will send out anything you deliver to them. Maria had to love the project or she wouldn't show it. It came down to either doing what I loved or what she loved. That was when I realized I couldn't just write what was popular at the time.

  5. Photos 6 and 7 (not as crowded) remind me of where my son lives just outside Osaka.
    Lovely post today.
Are you getting any of that horrific weather that is hitting the central states ?

    1. Thank you, Gayle!

Oh, yes, we've had our share of crappy weather--we've had so much lightning, I haven't yet been able to finish my revisions for the updated Angels at Midnight. I couldn't use the computer and there was a problem with the format on my tablets (long story).

  7. Like Evie, I like the one with the baby on the wall. Great photos! Never wanted to visit China or Asia for that fact. Europe and the Middle East even Africa.
