Presenting...Sam and Friends (Some of Them, Anyway)!

Three posts in one week...I can't remember the last time I did this!

But as I mentioned in previous posts, I've been toying with the idea of illustrating Sam's Story. My publisher tells me they can do it, so the next step was to come up with the illustrations. There was a time I would have simply done everything the traditional way, but a combination of too many prescription meds and arthritis have made my hands a bit too shaky--so I turned to technology for a solution. As it happens, over the years, Collin and I have taken a lot of photographs of the cast of characters in Sam's Story, so I simply converted those photos using two apps on my Kindle, Photo Lab Pro and Sketch Photo. Here are some samplers of what developed. Tell me what you think!

  1. Norma I like the first version of Sam One. I think the clearer images are nice, some are a wee bit indistinct.

    1. I'm partial to the first one, but I'm expecting to be told I can't use color!

  3. It's so neat how many different styles you came up with! I like the natural looking Sam One (1) the best but also like the black and white Sam One (3) a lot.

    1. The apps were really fun to work with. I'm working on a novel about a comic book writer and artist. I might illustrate that one using the comic book style illustrations.

  4. I am now obsolete. All of these apps are what I did for a living.
    My favorites are
    Sam Too 1
    Sam One 5
    Babs 2
    Sandy 3
They all could use some highlighting and line work here and there but I can't believe how fabulous these are. Even though I am obsolete. whaaaaaaaaaaaa !

    1. The apps are sooooo easy to use! I have both of them on my Kindle and phone--I don't even know if they're available on the computer.

I just sent you a couple I did just for you. I hope you like them.

    3. I'm glad you liked them...but sorry they made you cry.

I did some of a photo William has on his blog today, a sunflower. They turned out really well.

  5. The very first one looked more like a sliced cucumber with something stuck in to resemble a beak. The rest were good. Loved the one with Collin and Sam Too.

    1. I said earlier that the first one is my favorite, but actually it's my second favorite. First is the one of Collin and Sam. I'm thinking of having the original photo put on a mug. I don't drink coffee, but I do like coffee mugs!

  7. What an entertaining collection of art. Thank you for sharing it and of course I couldn't just pick one or the other. Sandy is one of my favorites and of course Iggy. How can anyone not love Iggy? Bugsy's relatives are eating our tomato garden and Collin and Sam look cute as always.

    1. Iggy's baby pictures are really cute. She was, if you'll pardon the poor choice of words, a real ham. She used to go out to the front gate and wait for Collin's school bus. She had a lot of fans on that bus!
